Dr Josh pieris - veterinarian
Josh has been at Billinudgel since 2012 and he loves the mix of country and coast. After graduating from the University of Queensland in Brisbane with honours, Josh started his career with an internship in a large specialist practice in Brisbane. Josh then worked in a number of smaller clinics on the Gold Coast before the opportunity arose to get back home to the North Coast. Most of Josh's spare time is spent on the beautiful surrounding beaches either surfing or walking his dog.
Dr Meagan Wheeless - Veterinarian
Meagan holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Texas A&M University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling both from the University of Texas, Austin.
Meagan previously worked for 6 years as a rehabilitative counselor and psychotherapist for military veterans who were transitioning back into the civilian workforce. After years of incorporating equine therapy programs and service dogs into her work, Meagan decided to pursue veterinary medicine. She saw the tremendous impact that animals make in people’s lives and wanted to make a difference for animals in return.
Meagan is an 8th generation Texan, originally from Austin. In April 2017 her family and her all moved to Australia to embark on a new adventure together. People may think they are crazy for bringing the whole crew but she couldn’t imagine making a home here without each of them, including fellow native Texan husband- Chance; Golden Retriever- Cali; black Lab- Canan; Terrier-Doxie mix- Lola; Chihuahua- Lily; and Ginger Manx cat- Mason. They say everything is bigger in Texas and that certainly includes their personalities! Eventually Meagan would love to expand their family with horses, goats and alpacas.
Meagan has a strong passion for travel and international animal welfare. She has done externships and volunteer work all over the world including the Galapagos Islands, Nicaragua, Peru, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. She hopes to continue this work domestic and abroad through outreach/ community education programs and spay-neuter clinics.
Meagan loves to spend her spare time outdoors with her husband and dogs, particularly hiking, paddling, and swimming in the lakes, rivers, and the ocean. She also loves photography and creating works of art out of refurbished material.

Florencia - Veterinary Nurse
Introducing our new Veterinary Nurse, Florencia. Florencia is from Atlántida, a beach town in the east coast of Uruguay. Arriving in Australia two years ago Florencia worked as a Veterinary Nurse in Melbourne before moving to the Northern Rivers. Prior to coming to Australia, Florencia graduated as a Veterinarian in 2012 and worked in general practice as a Veterinarian for five years in Uruguay. In order for her degree to be recognised in Australia, she has to undertake further study. In her role at MyVet Billinudgel Florencia is excited to apply her knowledge for the wellbeing of all animals whilst working as a Veterinary Nurse. She has a special interest in surgery and anaesthetics but above all she has a love for working with animals which motivates her to work in the veterinary field each day. In her spare time, Florencia volunteers at the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and finds being in contact with Australian wildlife amazing. Please make Florencia feel welcome next time you’re in the clinic!
